Scheduling your visit is the best way to minimize your time in the office

When you schedule a visit, the system will walk you through everything you need to bring to complete your transaction. Not only does this reduce the chance of needing to schedule a return trip, it also means your visit can be completed in an average of just 20 minutes.

  • We recommend scheduling a visit, so you can be served on time and be back on your way in about 20 minutes. When you schedule a visit, the system will walk you through everything you need to bring with you for your transaction, helping you to avoid having to make a return visit.

    Visits may be scheduled up to six months in advance. To schedule your visit, visitOnline Services or call 888-SOS-MICH (888-767-6424).

    TIP: Scheduling your visit is the best way to minimize your time in the office.

  • When scheduling your visit online, you must select the green “Submit” button after entering in your information. Once the visit has been confirmed, a message will display on the next page and a confirmation email will automatically be sent to the email address used to book your visit.

    The confirmation email also includes the option to cancel or reschedule the visit. To cancel or reschedule, select the link at the bottom of the email.

    Visits are canceled if they are made with an invalid email address, or if the same person has made duplicate reservations.

    You will also have the option to cancel or reschedule through a reminder text message.

    If you cannot locate your confirmation email, it is recommended that you search your inbox for an email from Noreply-CARS@Michigan.gov. Be sure to also check the junk or spam folders of your email account. If you still cannot locate your confirmation email, you can use the Find Visit form to manage your appointment online.

    A reminder email and/or text will be sent closer to the date of your scheduled visit.

  • Please schedule the office visit in your child's name as they are the resident who will receive service. You can use your own email address and phone number when scheduling. This will ensure the confirmation email and any follow-up messages are sent to your device.

  • If you aren’t able to locate your confirmation email, it is recommended that you search your inbox for an email from Noreply-CARS@Michigan.gov. Be sure to also check the junk or spam folders of your email account.

    If you still cannot locate your confirmation email, it is possible the visit may have been scheduled using a different or misspelled email address. You can locate your visit details online using the Find Visit form or by calling 888-SOS-MICH (888-767-6424) and selecting option 2.

  • While most transactions can be completed online, by mail, and at self-service stations, some still must be completed in person at a Secretary of State office, including:

    • Applying for a first-time standard or enhanced driver’s license or ID
    • Converting a license or ID to a REAL ID-compliant credential
    • Correcting a name, gender designation, commercial endorsem*nt or designation, or other information
    • Title transactions
    • Registering a vehicle for the first time
    • Every 12 years to renew credential, take a new photo, and complete a vision test (drivers only)
    • To renew your license or ID in person ahead of your 21st birthday (any time up to six months ahead of your 21st birthday).
  • If an office must close because of an unanticipated facility problem, power outage, confirmed COVID-19 exposure, or other safety concern, scheduled office visits may be moved to another area office or will be rescheduled for another day. Residents will be notified via email and/or text if their appointment has been moved to another office or needs to be rescheduled.
